Best Laptop Stands for DJs (Updated Aug 2022)

Laptop stands..certainly not the most glamorous of all DJ equipment but they’re incredibly important given they hold your laptop up over the decks and mixer.

You’ll probably be surprised at the options you’re faced with when searching for laptop stands!

There’s a fair few on the market from both well known audio manufacturers like Samson and Pioneer and other companies who are better known for manufacturing hardware.

A quality laptop stand will enable you to freely and easily position for optimal use whilst avoiding any worry of catastrophic collapse! Truth be told, it is probably worth paying a little extra for a durable stand that won’t bend, break or lose structural strength.

Here, we’ve reviewed some of the best stands that are sure to go to the distance even under the rigours of mixing and performance!

Laptop Stands: The Main Points

Ok, so you might be thinking “well a stand is a stand, surely?” and whilst that’s true to some extent, there are numerous aspects to consider when selecting a quality stand!

Strength and Weight-bearing Capability

It’s no secret that most DJs use various Macbooks and they are pretty light, but still, laptop stands need to competently hold up both lighter and heavier laptops for long periods of time. If you buy a particularly lightweight stand and someone rocks up to play on it with a massive gaming laptop then you don’t want to be worried!

Also, stands aren’t the kind of thing that people tend to treat that carefully or kindly. A weak stand might buckle after it’s been chucked into a car trunk of van a few times. A strong one will be roadworthy – much more likely to stand the rigours of touring with quick set ups and tear downs.

Positioning

Most laptop stands are adjustable to some extent but some models make adjustment particularly easy. Most stands generally have two legs and a top section which holds the laptop – simple. Still, other stands do offer more options for adjustment. Sometimes, you can swivel your laptop to different angles, position it higher towards your eyeline or lower depending on your height/height of the DJ desk and even tilt your laptop far forward if you prefer it to be positioned more vertically.

Dual Laptop/Controller Capability

Laptop stands can also be used to hold MIDI controllers, keyboards, synths, etc. Some DJs require this two-tier setup – there just isn’t space on the desk otherwise. Some stands offer this capability, or may feature an extra shelf positioned below the main platform to hold an interface or other accessories.

Free Standing Tripod Laptop Stands

Not all stands are designed for desk use. Some are freestanding, i.e. the stand on the floor itself with a tripod. This is pretty niche but some DJs may not like the idea of having their laptop anywhere near the decks, instead opting to have it somewhere to their stage left or right. Other performers may not use conventional decks at all.
